Should we Visit Copán this time?

After visiting Roatán and Cayos Cochinos, and still in Honduras, I thought it would be nice to take a trip to Copán and get immersed in time. 

You see, Copan is a beautiful small-town rich in history and culture. It is famous for its Mayan Ruins, but it is also a great place to relax, surrounded by beautiful colonial architecture, delicious food, and one of the world’s best coffees.

Copan, in the Copán Department of western Honduras, close to Guatemala, offers a diverse selection of hotels with authentic Honduran food, Honduran crafts, books, among other services. La Casa de Todo, Yat’B’alam, Hotel Marina Copan, Casa Villamil Boutique Hotel, are a few to mention. 

Things to do in Copan

1.- Copán Ruins

 UNESCO declared it with outstanding universal value and a World Heritage Site. It is one of the most spectacular cities of the ancient Maya Civilization, with stone temples, stelae, altars, and hieroglyphs. It is where the Mayan artists lived, and that is why it has some of the most impressive pre-Columbian art.  

2.- Macaw Mountain

This is a bird park with the mission of bird rescue, rehabilitation and release center. It is located 10 minutes away from Copán Ruinas. Here you will be able to have a personal encounter with birds in their natural environment. The park also provides a nature trail that stretches along the canyon, and from there, you can observe birds, butterflies and small mammals.

3.- Luna Jaguar Spa Resort

A beautiful eco-spa with Mayan architecture focused on providing visitors with a unique experience. It is located in a protected reserve, 20 km from Copán Ruinas, with springs of cold water and hot water where you can enjoy a natural foot massage, thermal mud bath, thermal baths, steam bath, natural jacuzzi, and a spiritual area.

4.- Copán Coffee Tour

A unique experience to learn about the whole process related to coffee cultivation and preparation.

5.- Copán Canopy Tour

It included 14 zip-lines through the hilltop’s northeast of Copán, on the way to Macaw Mountain Bird. You will have the opportunity to observe tropical vegetation above the rainforest canopy.
